Bucktown Real Estate

Bucktown Homes for SaleEven though Bucktown’s boundary blends with Wicker Park, Bucktown definitely has its own identity.  Forged from immigrant sprawl in the early 1800’s, regentrification in the 1970’s has reshaped Buckhead into a thriving community of families, artists, students, and small business owners who have turned the district’s industrial framework into vibrant shops, studios, galleries, and eating establishments, giving Bucktown a real “bohemian” vibe.  The cultural mix of its residents only adds to the flavor of the neighborhood.

Bucktown is beautifully tranquil with tree-lined residential streets along a mix of brownstones, storefronts, and newer housing units.  The more contemporary buildings blend seamlessly with the original architecture of the former century with all of its craftsman finishes.

Bucktown Dining & Activities

Bucktown Real EstateThe nearly 150 restaurants in the area bring together cuisine from across the globe including sushi, Asian, Mexican, Thai, Middle Eastern, French, Italian, and many more.  Add to the mix bakeries and candy stores, and you can have breakfast, lunch and dessert in the neighborhood!  There are also a number of night spots with various venues to keep the good times rolling through the wee hours.

Bucktown's shopping is as diverse as the Bucktown culture!  In a one-mile radius, you can shop at designer stores, browse for antiques, or visit any number of boutiques and unique shops specializing in handmade goods, apparel, home furnishings, or paper goods.

A dappling of historic landmarks leave evidence of the neighborhood’s proud beginnings as a colony for Germans, Scandinavians, Polish and Russian settlers.  St Mary of the Angels Catholic Church was originally established by Polish immigrants around the turn of the 19th century and features Italian Romanesque architecture and gorgeous stained glass windows.  Inside visitors will find a treasure trove of magnificent artwork.  Similarly, the current Covenant Presbyterian Church with its glorious interior was originally a parish of the Polish National Catholic Church and is listed as an historic church.

Bucktown Neighborhood Information

A signature of Chicago city planning is the city park, and near Bucktown there are many like Holstein Park.  Occupying three acres, the park features a brick fieldhouse (circa 1912) equipped with two gymnasiums, an auditorium, and meeting spaces.  Outside, the park features ball fields, a volleyball court, playground and swimming pool.  Several annual festival events are held at this family-friendly green space.

The area is well served by public transit, as well as sidewalks, bike trails and the “L-train.”  I-90 bisects the community, so getting to and from the neighborhood will not be a hindrance.
